Teacher Crafts: stool, toolbox, post it dispenser

August 5, 2013 By Rachel

Y’all this is my last Monday of Summer!!  (Very sorry to anybody who’s back to work already) Like I said in my last post, I’m not going into school this week.  It’s “Rachel Week”, not to be confused with Shark Week, and I’m having me-time, friend time, get my house cleaned and organized time.  You know, all that stuff you don’t get to do once school starts!

I still have a few projects to do for school and here’s a couple I did this past weekend.  I, of course, am linking up with the fan-tab-ulous Tara from 4th Grade Frolics with her Monday Made-It party!

This first one is more of a re-make.  My mom and I painted this stool many years ago.  It was pre-Pinterest and blogging.  It has survived quite nicely until this past year.  The fabric was starting to wear and one of my lovely students decided to help the process and ripped it open.  I recovered it and added some more foam.  I did it right over the previous fabric.

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw this beauty.  It’s been on my to-do list since last year!  I finally made one.  The toolbox came from Home Depot, scrapbook paper from Michaels, and the labels are from Kristen at Ladybug Teacher Files.

These were crayon holders in one of those big boxes of crayons.  They were originally green and I spray painted them black and added washi tape.  I still need to add a label.  They will hold “paws” tickets on my desk.

This is the project I’m super excited about! My fabulous teacher partner gave me a post-it pop up dispenser a couple years ago.  I loved it because I always have trouble finding my post-it packs on my desk during the day.  This keeps them in one spot.
Well…when I was setting up my desk last week, I wasn’t excited about it because it did not match my colors.  So I thought…I’ll paint it.  But the problem came when I was looking for spray paint for plastic in a color I wanted.  I couldn’t find it. So I went to Lowes and was talking to the paint guy when he told me about this…
It’s a primer for plastic and you can use ANY spray paint on top of it! How did I not know about this?! The possibilities are now endless!!

So I took dispenser apart and sprayed the primer.  It’s hard to tell in this picture, but the primer is clear and leaves a hazy look to the plastic, so you know where you’ve painted.  I did two coats and let dry completely in between.
I then sprayed it pink with regular gloss spray paint! I did take the rubber stem off before painting and also covered the button in the middle with painters tape.  I was worried the paint would mess up the springs inside.
Here she is looking all fabulous!  I can’t wait to take her to school!

I hope y’all have a fantastic week! I know I will!!

I love your stool! I've been scoping out garage sales & the Goodwill to find "the perfect" chair to paint! Not sure if it's the summer laziness in me that hasn't found something, or I just truly haven't found the perfect chair! Well done on all your projects this week!
