Classroom Birthday Ideas

August 1, 2021 By Rachel Vincent

classroom birthday ideas

These classroom birthday ideas are sure to get your students excited about celebrating their birthdays. I know this can often be something we overlook as a teacher, but everyone should be celebrated on the day they were born. So doing a few extra things can really make your students feel special on their big day!

Birthday Signs

One of the things I like to do is put up several signs around the room letting everyone know we’re celebrating someone. I have a car magnet that I made on VistaPrint years ago, that I hang on our classroom door.  I also picked up a little banner a few years ago at the Target Dollar spot.  I’ve also made a sign and laminated it to place on their desk in years past

This is where you could go all out..but I keep it simple. I picked up some birthday streamers from The Dollar Tree and I just tore a couple of pieces for their desk. You could totally add confetti, but I didn’t want the mess. #realtalk I also found these seat covers at The Dollar Tree and put them on their chairs. Pre-covid, I have a special supply caddy that students get to use on their birthday! And of course, their goody bag!

Student Birthday Gift

I have a little goody bag that includes a pencil, a note from me, a homework pass, an eraser, and a piece of candy. You can totally simplify this and just give a homework pass or I love what Anna from Hanging with Mrs. Hulsey does with these cute birthday cups!

Sing & Celebrate

At the end of the day, I have the birthday student come up to the front and sit on my stool. The class then sings happy birthday to them! Afterward, our Birthday Monster sings and dances happy birthday. I picked him up years ago at Walmart and haven’t seen him since. But I did find this dog on Amazon that could work. It’s a little of an investment, but I’ve had my monster for at least 10 years and he’s just now starting to not work as well.

It’s really fun when a student’s birthday falls on their week to be “Student of the Week” but either way…we enjoy celebrating birthdays in the classroom!  Check out my birthday celebration pack for easy to print ideas!
