3 Tips to Enjoy Your School Year

August 17, 2013 by Rachel

It’s the last day of Teacher Week!  Well, yesterday was, and quite frankly I didn’t want to do ANY.thing!  It was my first week back and I’ve had training all week.  My couch and Netflix were calling my name.  It was raining and you just can’t say no to that!

Tips & Tricks
These are really reminders for me not to get consumed by the craziness of the new school year!

1. Take time for yourself
...unless they are saying to Jesus 'cause they died. I'm pretty sure you are all caught up then. No work is due the next day, and there IS no substitute. That is why it is called HEAVEN.
You will never be “all caught up” so don’t stress about it!
I choose one day a week that I must stay late and one day a week that I make myself leave early (as in shortly after dismissal).
It really saves my sanity.  This year I’m actually going to try to leave early two days a week and go to the gym.  It’s not usually the same day every week because things come up all the time.  I try to make a plan at the beginning of the week.

2. Enjoy the little things!
too funny
So much of our jobs are stressful…so find the joy in the little things!

3.
Lots of classroom printables- on this page and on her july 2011 blog posts :)
We only get 180 days each year with our kiddos…so make every day count!
I have really enjoyed Teacher Week ’13 and was glad I could be a part of it!  Next week gets even busier with Meet the Teacher on Monday and the 1st Day of School on Wednesday!
Have a great weekend!!

I’m a 4th grade teacher who shares realistic systems and routines for 3rd–5th grade classrooms.
Think: less chaos, more structure, and nothing that requires a personality transplant to pull off.
If you’re:

• craving systems that actually work mid-year
• trying to teach well and keep your sanity
You’re in the right place.
I’m stepping back from Instagram for a bit and simplifying where I show up. No drama. Just focus.
👉 Check the next two pinned posts to see where I am sharing and what I recommend starting with.

YouTube is.
In 2026, that’s where I’m sharing:
• full classroom routines
• behavior and management systems
• realistic walkthroughs you can actually use
• the stuff that doesn’t fit in a 7-second Reel
If you’ve ever wished I could just slow down and explain it, YouTube is where that happens.
🎥 New videos go up there (without the algorithm chaos).

Coming back after winter break is… a whole vibe. 😅 Coming back after winter break is… a whole vibe. 😅
Half your class forgets how to go to school, the other half is still in pajama-mode, and we’re all pretending we didn’t eat our body weight in holiday cookies.
Here are 5 things that make the first day back so much smoother:

Start with something low-key and personal. My one-page Welcome Back printer is perfect for quick reflection + giving everyone space to share without losing the whole morning.
